5 Questions With The May #DryTortugas Photo Contest Winner

Meet Matthew White, our May 2024 #DryTortugas Photo Contest winner. We had the chance to ask him a few questions about his experience at the Dry Tortugas National Park. Read on to learn how he captured his amazing photo!

1. When did you visit the Dry Tortugas National Park? Did you arrive by seaplane, the Yankee Freedom ferry, or another way?
I visited in January of 2024 and camped for two nights. I arrived by ferry.

2. If you arrived by the Yankee Freedom, how was your ferry trip?
My ferry trip was actually a little bumpy, seas were 3-4ft that day and just rough enough to get half the boat sea sick. The crew however was exceptional that day making sure everyone was as comfortable as possible.

3. How did you capture your winning photo? What inspired you to take it? Did you use any cool camera gear?
I woke up every morning to watch the sunrise from the fort. Was lucky to capture this photo with my friend walking along the fort.

4. What made your trip to the Dry Tortugas memorable?
Even though the weather didn’t cooperate, the sunrise captured in this photo is one I’ll never forget.

5. What do you plan to do with your National Park Annual Pass?
I plan to return to Glacier National Park!
